Subject: To promote teamwork and collaboration
Date: June 25, 2017
The purpose of this memo is to express how our
teams intends to improve the teamwork and communication within the
manufacturing section of an engineering company.
Summary:
When manufacturing teams begin to experience
tension with other members of the team, it can result in time delays and
increased costs. Teamwork and cooperation are key to a smoothly operating
facility; our team will research the best ways to improve teamwork among
engineers. In our team, Jeff Sniegowski and Chris Zhang are Management Engineer,
William Chan is a Mechanical Engineer and Michelle Moran T is a Mechanic with
Anthropology knowledge background.
Discussion:
A local manufacturing plant has been experience
conflict within their floor team. If these conflicts aren’t resolved in an
orderly fashion more employees of the company may become involved. The larger
these type of conflicts become, the more the company will be affected by them.
The floor team is having problems with their communication and teamwork skills.
They aren’t communicating well with the other teams in the company, which is
leading to missed deadlines and low productivity.
My team will work hard to research the main
reasons for a lack of communication and teamwork in manufacturing and
engineering fields. We will look into scholarly journals, as well as other
outside sources that may be insightful.
To make sure our team produces a solution for
this manufacturing team in a timely order, we will multitask various steps of
the process. Our research efforts will be split amongst the team to reduce the
time it takes to complete our research. We will also collaborate on many
different sections of our work to maintain the same level of understanding. We
will use this chart to stay on track and also to spread out the work load.

Subject: Progress report of team collaboration
on Project #3
Introduction:
This memo is to discuss the current status of
the group’s progress on Project #3, with our focus being on communication and
collaboration in the engineering industry.
Main:
On the 23rd of June is when the team started
brainstorming ideas for the project and decided that the focus should be on
engineering fields within corporations. Companies we favored were Raytheon,
Texas Instruments, Boeing, Sergeant, and Caterpillar, but we decided to focus
document on the company Texas Instruments.
Since deciding our focus, we researching various
articles relating to communication and collaboration within engineering teams.
We have successfully found fourteen articles relating to our topic. We have
conducted individual resource evaluation of some of the articles, and have
found that the articles to be reliable sources.
We have already submitted a proposal of our
project and conducted an audience profile. We found multiple images that each
team member felt was a visual depicting communications and collaboration.
To help figure out the specifics we conducted
multiple research syntheses and decided where to place emphasis and define
within the document.
On the 28th of June we are submitting a rough
draft of our project.

Subject: 2nd progress report of the
collaboration on Project#3
Introduction:
This memo is to discuss the current status of
the group’s progress on Project #3, with our focus being on communication and
collaboration in the engineering industry.
Main:
Project #3 was initiated on 23rd of June 2017.
Our team has been focusing on communication and collaboration within the
engineering field of industry with Texas Instruments as our company of choice.
We have been able to complete most of the homework for Due Date #13.
We have reviewed our sentence structure and our
organization for the document, as well as focusing on our sentence structure
and document design. We decided that a simple design was sufficient and some
parts of our document needed to be reworked.
Our sentences structures ranged from simple to
complex, but the structures were either simple or complex with a heavy use of
infinitives.
Major revisions and rewrites were made to the
Introduction, Background, Main Section, and Conclusion. All the quotes that
will be used in the Main Section have been found and organized. The main
section and conclusion still needs to be rewritten in order to cover all
document requirements. The main section needs to be written before the conclusion
can be written. The executive summary will be rewritten once the main section
is completed, in order to correctly summarize our report. Our reference sheet
and annotated bibliography still needs to be formatted to include all necessary
citations and spacing. The tip sheet could use some design improvement to make
it more visually appealing. As of now, the Acknowledgements, Introduction,
Background, Problem Statement, and Methods of Research are 99% complete. We
will have to complete the Executive summary, Main section, Conclusion,
References, Tip Sheet, and Annotated Bibliography in the next few days
On the 2nd of July, we are submitting the final
version of project 3.

I felt most proud of
the structure of our document. I felt like the transition was smooth and the
topics explained in the main sections hit the major issues in teamwork and how
to go about fixing them. If we had more time on this project, there were a couple
of more issues that I had thought about but didn’t get the enough time to
thoroughly go into depth with them. With the week spent on writing this
document and the help from peers with their editing, I am proud of this
document. In the engineering field, you will be given individual projects, but
most of them will be in teams. Usually it will consist of a couple of other
types of engineers such as mechanical, chemical, electrical and Biosystems. The
reason for that is because the group needs a broader set of expertise to
accomplish a task. With these teams, I will need to be able to work/communicate
in a team. With what I learned about the basis of teamwork and communication,
this will help me out in the future when I go into the engineering field.
